Leave-No-Trace: You ARE the Cleanup Crew!


Buenaventura is located on 84 acres of preserved history and community land. We are fortunate to be able to host our events in this space. There is a river, pond, trees, grass and wildlife. We strive to leave the park cleaner than it was before our event. To do you part, you'll need to pack in and pack out all of your refuse. You will not see garbage cans and bins everywhere, you are responsible for everything that you bring in. This includes tiny things like cigarette butts, nut shells, orange peels....it does not matter if it if organic material, we adhere to the Burning Man principle of Matter Out of Place (MOOP) - if it doesn't belong there, meaning it is out of place, pack it out.  

While we have a Leave-No-Trace (LNT) team it is not their job to clean up your messes. They will be helping with Leave-No-Trace education and can provide you with things like garbage bags if needed. If you would like to learn more about our team leads, see here

Here are some tips on how to keep the park clean: 
  
Smokers  
Put your cigarette butts in your pocket, purse or container. Do NOT throw your butts, EVER. These are super hard to pick up and some one will have to pick up your butts, don't make your friends have to do that please.
 
Plates, bowls, cups and more 
We do not give out or condone the use of one-time-use containers. Bring your own cup, utensils and such. There is water to clean your dishes. Reuse also equates to you hauling out less garbage as well. While we provide free coffee and hot drinks, you will not find coffee mugs there, bring your own. Even bring a few extra in to share.
 
Dogs  
If you have signed a dog contract and bring a dog in. You must clean up 100% of their poo. If you forgot baggies, there will be some available by the greeters at the gate or at medical at all hours.
 
Food boxes and containers  
To help lighten your load out, consider removing the packaging used to encapsulate processed food at home before you pack. If you are bringing in fresh food, have a plan to manage the parts of the food you do not use or leftovers.
 
Beer Cans 
Create a plan for your camp and associated camps to recycle beer and or soda cans. If you are going to the stage put your empty cans in a back pack, cooler or wagon so you are not tempted to leave your cans at the stage. If you are worried about leakage smash your cans and contain them in a ziplock bag. 
  
Feminine Hygiene Products and Diapers 
Do not discard these kinds of hygiene products into the porta-potties. It clogs up the portables and frankly, no one wants to see that stuff floating around. There are eight flush toilets available. Or plan on placing used hygiene products into a baggie or ziplock bag and dispose of it properly. On another note, if you need tampons or pads they are available in the medical tent. 

Leaky Cars - Oil Slicks 
If you know your car might be a little leaky and you want to park on the grass or dirt. Place a piece of cardboard or other safe material under your vehicle to prevent chemicals from hitting the soil. 
  
Fire Pits 
First of all do not create a fire pit. You can only have a fire in a designated fire pit. Not every area has one, so make new friends and share one. Second, do not put things in there that are not meant to burn. We have spent many hours digging cans and glass out of fire pits, don't do it! Please. Also do not cut down any live wood. You can use fallen and dead wood however.  

There are many more ways that you can help keep the park clean and preserved. These few suggestions are particular to our specific event. Through the years we have picked up entire camps, cleaned up rogue fire pits, cleaned out fire pits, picked up lost clothing, picked up at least 5000 cigarettes, 2000 beer cans and just random crap. Leaving things behind is disrespectable to the space, Weber County, the event organizers and you personally. Be a conscious camper and also help your fellow camp mates make good decisions as well.

Thank you Talia. For all the music and passion you have brought to the EQ stage the past four years. Since her first appearance on the EQ stage in Ogden with Marinade in 2010 Talia has gone on multiple tours and recorded. Her latest album Fool's Gold is a solo release with Talia playing many of the tracks along with guest artists. Currently she is on a North West tour and she'll be back in Utah soon to open for Allen Stone September 15th. If you can make this show at The Depot you should. We saw Allen Stone years ago at Mojos and can now say, "we knew him when." You can see Talia Keys at FallEQ 2015 and soon will be able to say, "I knew her when."  Talia is taking off - don't miss her while she is here!

FallEQ 2015: How to be the best live music fan EVER!



The first thing you need to do is get your bum to the stage.  Even if you can hear the music from your camp, the bands really like to see your faces and hear your cheers and see you dancing! We have a nice big venue space and plenty of room to share. EQ's are not stuffy you can bring your non-glass drinks and your kids to the stage. Bring everyone and have fun!

We know yo'all like modern conveniences so come to the stage and post up!

Bring your shade,

Bring your cooler wagon,
 Bring your grub,
Bring your big-ass chairs,


But most of all, bring your love of music!


And of course share the love and leave-no-trace..oh and no lasers...they'll poke your eye out!

Also, share their music, buy their CDs, like their FB, follow them on Twitter, help your favorite bands out!

Dogs: Rules and Regulations


Dogs want to have as much fun as you and want to have fun with their owners; however, in the past we have had issues with owners not picking up excrement and the dogs running around in packs. The dogs had a grand ol' time but were unattended. Weber County was not happy with this situation so we stopped allowing dogs. But Nocturnal Grooves experimented with a new dog policy that worked pretty well for them. We created our own dog policy based on what worked  for them this summer.

First, we are a private event, we have consulted with a few and have learned that we do not HAVE to let dogs in. Not even service dogs. We are assuming though that service dogs are properly documented and have their shots and paperwork should be up to date. I will give a few copies of this policy to those who are selling tickets or you can download it and print it yourself, either way be prepared to have the information filled out before you come through the gate.

Basically to fill out the form you will need:
  • Rabies Lic#
  • Lic#
And the dog will be required to be on a leash at all times and well-behaved. If your dog is not licensed you can obtain a license through your municipality provided that you have its rabies shot information which you can get from your vet. And of course you'll need to clean up after your pet. If your dog is young and not socialized yet, you may want to consider only bringing them in for limited hours until they can learn to be calm. Or you can walk them to the leash-free dog park by the baseball field and let them run for a while to expend their energy.

It is not expensive and in most cases $10- $30 per year.

The dog entrance fee is $15 for the entire event and we will tag them with the owner's contact information.

If you feel that your dog is not quiet ready for a festival experience, you can check out some Yelp reviews and maybe find a good fur baby sitter. Or perhaps you can work with a few friends to take care of your dogs outside the event. Thank you for being a responsible pet owner.

UPDATED: Medical Tent: Learn about our services

The Med Tent is located at the center of the event near the bridge, kid's camp and Weber Co camp hosts. It is the first place to go if someone is hurt and needs medical attention. Also located in this tent is things like the volunteer t-shirts, general information and lost & found. As well as general supplies like tooth brushes and feminine hygiene products. Quite often there is a phone charger there as well.

No one need to drive out or leave the event for minor things. If you need a wound washed and dressed, head ache medicine, something for your heartburn and much more visit the med tent. Medical services are FREE! Donations accepted.

REAL  EMERGENCIES
Some emergencies will require an ambulance to come in and pick up the patient or they may need to be driven out. If you cannot walk or should not be moved, ask a friend to bring a medical volunteer to you to access the situation. If you see someone who looks to be in danger, whether you know them or not, visit the med tent and ask a volunteer to check on them to ensure that they are okay.  In some cases an ambulance will be called in to take you out of the event safely. In most cases within five minutes. Medical volunteers will also have a radio that they can use to report other types of dangerous situations such as a lost parent or child, abuse or violence, or dangerous reckless behavior.

NEW: Needle dispensers will be in regular bathrooms
We are not going to ask you what the needles are for, we hope for diabetes management, Either way dispense of needles safely. Please be mindful of friends using illicit, dangerous substances. Narcan is available at medical.

Minor Issues
The Med Tent volunteers can easily handle things like cuts, bruises, twisted ankles, splinters, minor burns,  sun burns, bug bites and scrapes. They can also help you with things like upset stomachs, headaches, dehydration, low blood sugar and back aches.

Emotional & Other Medical Issues
Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed or looking for a quiet place to be. This may be a result of fatigue, stress, an altered state, mental health issue or dehydration. If you or a friend could use sanctuary and support visit the med tent. There are two quiet cots in back for relaxing and overcoming confusing or stressful situations. If you are altered do not hesitate to visit the med tent if you need help. We will not judge you about your lifestyle choices but will do our best to keep you calm and hydrated. Other medical crew will only be called in if your health is in serious danger.

The med tent includes a vast array of odds and ends that you might need. Such as,
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Band aids
  • Contact lenses solution
  • Tums and antacids
  • Allergy pills
  • Cold medicine
  • Cough drops
  • Chapstick
  • Lotion
  • Baby wipes
  • Cold / hot packs
  • Oral hygiene kits
  • Emergency blankets
  • Water
  • Emergency snacks
  • Garbage bags
  •  Nail cutters
  • Toilet paper
Stuff we don't have:
Prescription medications, at all, so don't come looking

Volunteers -- We need you!

Volunteers, we need you.

We cannot pull of an event of this size off successfully without EVERYONE'S help. Even if you cannot sign up for a shift, you can still help with clean up and keeping everyone safe. Together we can create a happy environment for everyone to feel safe and have a good time.

Being a volunteer is fun and a great way to meet people. Work with a friend, spouse, love or child. We accept all volunteers regardless of age or experience. Teens can volunteer; however, those under 12 need to work with a parent and may only be considered a "half" volunteer. But it is a good opportunity to teach our children how to help others and work a large event. Teens can work all shifts except for the medical shifts. Medical shift volunteers MUST be sober and alert, thank you.

SOMETHING NEW: Prime shifts

Filling all of our shifts, especially with uniques is hard. So this year we are offering an incentive. Those that are able to attend an orientation meeting and make their PRIME shift will get $20 back at the volunteer appreciation party. Prime shifts are those during busy hours that are hard to fill. We HAVE to have those shifts filed and we greatly appreciate those who step up.

Orientation meeting: September 2nd, 6pm at Fort Buenaventura, meet at the Trader Row Pavilion (this pavilion is kinda in the center of the park just before the bridge, near parking) If you cannot make this meeting contact your team lead.

Sweet schhhwaaag and stuff:
Volunteer t-shirts will be at the medical tent. Sizes are limited, so come early. All volunteers who make their shift will get a FallEQ 2015 t-shirt and are invited to the volunteer appreciation party. For the party we usually spend about $600 on BBQ and buy about 120 beers, all ages are welcome, it is a fun time and a good chance to discuss things that worked and things that did not work. If there are any extra t-shirts those will be given out as well and maybe even a gift, last year we gave out plate/cup/utensil camp sets.

Tickets: volunteering does not earn a free pass. This event costs thousands of dollars and everyone contributes. But this year, after you buy your ticket and work your shift(s) you'll get a reward. But don't forget to buy your ticket and they are cheaper in advance.
